{"id":15,"date":"2017-03-14T10:17:27","date_gmt":"2017-03-14T09:17:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.domainedurayol.org\/le-jardin\/les-paysages-au-fil-du-jardin\/jardin-damerique-subtropicale\/"},"modified":"2018-05-03T16:22:02","modified_gmt":"2018-05-03T14:22:02","slug":"the-subtropical-american-garden","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.domainedurayol.org\/en\/the-garden\/map\/the-subtropical-american-garden\/","title":{"rendered":"The Subtropical American Garden"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><del>T<\/del>he <em>Jardin des M\u00e9diterran\u00e9es<\/em> \u2018plays host\u2019 to the tropical vegetation of the Americas by creating a landscape which combines plants from two regions on either side of the equator:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>from the southern hemisphere, the region spanning northern Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay and southern Brazil,<\/li>\n<li>from the northern hemisphere, the southern half of Mexico and all of Central America.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>It is a well-watered garden, and is the only area of the Domaine du Rayol where grass stays green and shrubs flower in summer.<\/p>\n<div class=\"gallery\"><div class=\"gallery-captions\"><p class=\"gallery-captions__item\"><span class=\"gallery-captions__item__number\">01.<\/span> Light on the Opus<\/p><\/div><a class=\"gallery__item\" href=\"https:\/\/www.domainedurayol.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2017\/04\/AMST-\u00a9-Domaine-du-Rayol-Chlo\u00e9-ARREGOCES-e1493041334147.jpg\" title=\"Light on the Opus \u00a9 Domaine du Rayol, Chlo\u00e9 ARREGOCES\">\n                    <div class=\"gallery__item__thumbnail\" style=\"background-image: url(https:\/\/www.domainedurayol.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2017\/04\/AMST-\u00a9-Domaine-du-Rayol-Chlo\u00e9-ARREGOCES-e1493041334147.jpg)\"><\/div>\n                    <span class=\"gallery__item__number\">01<\/span>\n                <\/a><\/div>\n<hr \/>\n<h2>Blooms all year round<\/h2>\n<p>In the Argentinian area there are <strong>abutilons, cockscomb coral trees<\/strong> with their unusual blood red flowers, the <em><strong>Tipuana tipu<\/strong><\/em>, a tree with magnificent yellow flowers that blossom at the beginning of summer, the <em><strong>Chorysia<\/strong> <\/em><strong>bottle tree<\/strong> with its pink, fragrant flowers, the <em><strong>Butia<\/strong> <\/em><strong>apricot palm<\/strong> with edible fruits and the <em><strong>Syagrus<\/strong> <\/em>feathery palm tree.<br \/>\nIn the Mexican area there are plants from the rainforest: the highly fragrant <em><strong>Lantana<\/strong><\/em>, the vanilla-scented <strong>Duranta<\/strong>, the giant ragwort <em><strong>Telanthophora<\/strong><\/em> with its huge yellow flowers, the <strong>Malvaviscus<\/strong> mallow, the white <strong>arali<\/strong> <em><strong>Oreopanax<\/strong><\/em>, and the Mexico <em><strong>Otatea<\/strong> <\/em><strong>bamboo<\/strong> with its fine weeping foliage.<br \/>\nHere you can also find the <strong>Montezuma pine<\/strong>, the sacred pine of the last Aztec emperor, Montezuma, beaten by Cortez and his conquistadores.<\/p>\n<h2>The <em>nolinaie<\/em><\/h2>\n<div class=\"gallery gallery-split\"><div class=\"gallery-captions\"><p class=\"gallery-captions__item\"><span class=\"gallery-captions__item__number\">02.<\/span> The nolina<\/p><p class=\"gallery-captions__item\"><span class=\"gallery-captions__item__number\">03.<\/span> The nolina<\/p><\/div><a class=\"gallery__item\" href=\"https:\/\/www.domainedurayol.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2017\/04\/AMST-\u00a9-Domaine-du-Rayol-Chlo\u00e9-ARREGOCES-3-e1493038253175.jpg\" title=\"The nolina \u00a9 Domaine du Rayol, Chlo\u00e9 ARREGOCES\">\n                    <div class=\"gallery__item__thumbnail\" style=\"background-image: url(https:\/\/www.domainedurayol.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2017\/04\/AMST-\u00a9-Domaine-du-Rayol-Chlo\u00e9-ARREGOCES-3-e1493038253175.jpg)\"><\/div>\n                    <span class=\"gallery__item__number\">02<\/span>\n                <\/a><a class=\"gallery__item\" href=\"https:\/\/www.domainedurayol.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2017\/04\/AMST-\u00a9-Domaine-du-Rayol-Chlo\u00e9-ARREGOCES-2-e1493038286248.jpg\" title=\"The nolina \u00a9 Domaine du Rayol, Chlo\u00e9 ARREGOCES\">\n                    <div class=\"gallery__item__thumbnail\" style=\"background-image: url(https:\/\/www.domainedurayol.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2017\/04\/AMST-\u00a9-Domaine-du-Rayol-Chlo\u00e9-ARREGOCES-2-e1493038286248.jpg)\"><\/div>\n                    <span class=\"gallery__item__number\">03<\/span>\n                <\/a><\/div>\n<p>Native to Mexico, the great <em><strong>nolina<\/strong> <\/em>of the Domaine du Rayol date back to the early 20th century. They were planted by Alfred Courmes, the first owner of the Domaine. They are well adapted to dry climates and have a luxurious, dramatic appearance. Some spontaneously reseed themselves in the garden.
